Button Mushroom Strain Development Optimized for Kenya's High-Temperature Environment
In Machakos and Kiambu regions, Mush& achieved 400kg-scale onsite production validation of heat-optimized button mushroom strains. JKUAT Smart Farm partner sites completed pilot testing at two farmer demonstration facilities.
Unprecedented Income Generation with Minimal Input
Compared to traditional maize cultivation, Machakos farmers achieved 537,634% income growth while requiring only 1/172 the land area to generate equivalent annual income.
Empowering Youth and Women Farmers Through Agricultural Innovation
Program participants: 215 direct beneficiaries (2x target exceeded) Indirect beneficiaries: 1,610 people (1.6x target exceeded) Core focus: Youth and women farmer participation and economic empowerment.

Confirmed 10% reduction in destructive agricultural practices in pilot zones. Project Overview
Mush& Sustainable Agriculture & Smallholder Income Growth Project is coming to CGM’s Marketplace!
Mush& upcycles post-harvest agricultural residues into high-value, pre-inoculated mushroom substrate and supplies it to smallholder farmers as a recurring agricultural input. Through this project, we aim to promote the circular use of agricultural resources while supporting more stable mushroom production and income growth for smallholder farmers.
Independent Impact Verification Process
Through Common Good Marketplace (CGM), the social and environmental outcomes generated by this project will be independently verified and offered to funders as Verified Impact Assets (VIAs).
This outcome-based approach allows funders to support real and measurable results created through our work, rather than supporting only the project’s operating costs.
